Risk groups. Exhibition by Yulia Lokshina

03.07. to 02.08.2020

The current dystopian reality, altered by a virus, reveals the shortcomings of our society. We are relentlessly confronted with our failings and the ambivalence of our actions in the past. However, the reflexive and childish assurances of improvement make it clear that the real problem lies in the suppression of the substantive challenges. At the same time, the longing for a return to old habits seems to be greater than the desire to discuss urgent issues and far-reaching social changes. Yulia Lokshina's films, videos and installations address precisely this point. She raises questions about the rule of law, social structure, faith, economics, consumption and social fairness, forcing us to reflect on the current definition of at-risk groups.

Yulia Lokshina, born in Moscow in 1986, studied documentary film directing at the University of Television and Film Munich. She works in the border area of film and science at the Forum Internationale Wissenschaft Bonn, as well as in open formations with artist friends. Her films have been honoured with the Max Ophüls Prize for Documentary Film 2020, the Megaherz Student Award at Dokfest München 2020 and the Starter Film Prize of the City of Munich 2017, among others.

The film "Rules on the conveyor belt, at high speed" gently draws our attention to what nobody wants to see: the deplorable timelessness of the capitalist system of exploitation also manifests itself in the midst of our society, made clear here using the example of German slaughterhouses.
